What, exactly, is chanting?

The practice of Japa involves constant recitation of a mantra or the name of God. “It is spiritual nourishment for the starving soul.” Only Japa Sadhana, practiced in this Kali Yuga, can ensure one's eternal bliss and peaceful immortality. Japa and meditation are inseparable. When you repeat the names Rama, Krishna, Narayana, or Sathya Sai, visual images of these deities immediately arise in your mind. Meditation and chanting go hand in hand, then. They can't be separated. So, chant the mantra with bhava, or devotion, after learning its meaning. When one chants, he’ll experience God anywhere and in anything. It's the surefire way to ignite the true and eternal flame of knowledge, allowing you to vanquish your own ego and unite with the Supreme Soul.
