> About Ashram > Guru Sastanga
The ‘supreme holiness of Satsang’ can be comprehended through direct experience but not through mere words.
"Sat" refers to God. “Sangam” refers to Friendship.
The sand ascends to the sky, forming an alliance with the wind. The same sand reaches the bottom through its association with water. The sand nad neither wings nor feet for landing in the water. The reason for sand flies is due to its friendship developed with the wind and it lands due to its friendship with water.
When iron is placed in soil, it corrodes. The same iron becomes softer when heated. The relationship between iron, earth and fire is the source of such actions.
Sangam is main reason either to the deterioration or improvement of a person. Therefore, man should seek a harmonious union.
Satsangam does not imply gathering with ten people to discuss spiritual matters pertaining to God. Sat refers to God. While Sangam refers to 10 of the five karmandriyas and five Jnanendriyas that are in a Human Being, Satsang is to develop a nurturing relationship of the former with Sat, or God.
During a satsang visit to Lord Sri Buddha, Angulimalu was "enlightened."

Therefore, for a human, the "Ultimate Holiness" of Satsang can only be understood through direct experience.
